About
The Experiment Archive is a website with experiments that are (1) fun and (2) made with everyday items. Experiments that make you excited - whether you are young or old. The purpose of the website is to spread knowledge about science and technology.
Target audience
The website is for anyone who finds joy in experimenting. The most important target group is teachers and other educators. But the website is as much for kids and adults who want to do experiments outside of school - maybe as an enjoyable craft in the living room, an activity outdoors or a bad party trick.
The categories
The main categories (yellow books) will help you find the right experiment. The main categories are the same as the five natural sciences, plus technology.
- Physics = The science of matter, energy and forces.
- Chemistry = The science of matter (not on a smaller scale than atoms) - more precisely its composition, properties and transformations.
- Biology = The science of life.
- Earth science = The science of planet Earth.
- Astronomy = The science of celestial objects and the space around them.
- Technology = The study of tools.
An experiment may fit multiple categories, but will for the sake of order only be placed in the most suitable one.
There are also three thematic categories (pink books):
Fire,
Water and
Air. These are interdisciplinary and contains experiments from multiple main categories.
Small glossary
Under the
Experiment heading are tips on how you can turn the demonstration into an experiment. Most "experiments" on this site are in fact demonstrations. But a demonstration can become an experiment by doing it over and over again, changing one variable at a time.
Under the
Variation(s) heading are tips on how you can produce the same phenomenon using different materials.
Experiments tagged as
Special cannot be made using everyday items or are extra risky (or both). But they are fun enough to be on the website anyway.
Copyright
The Experiment Archive doesn't own the copyright to the experiments on this website. These experiments are widely known to the public and have no known creator (if there is a suspicion of a known creator, they will be credited). Besides that, the images, photos, videos and texts on this website are copyrighted.

About me
The Experiment Archive is made by me, Ludvig Wellander. I'm from Sweden, which is why you can see Swedish products in the photos and videos on this site. I'm trained as a teacher in biology and physical education for older students, but have spent most of my years teaching science and technology to all ages. I've always wanted a good collection of experiments - hence this website.
The music
The music in the experiment videos is made by ABBA-guitarist, and my old man, Lasse Wellander. You can find Lasse (and some of the songs from the experiment videos) on
Spotify.
